Dakota “Kota” Davis
Dakota was our family’s first dog. He was born on July 3, 2010 in Charlotte, North Carolina and left us on February 12, 2023 at 2:30 a.m. Though his last days were painful, he maintained his God given spirit of concern for us. It was clear to us that he did not want to leave us. Without a doubt, Dakota loved his family. Even when it became difficult for him to move due to a cancerous tumor, he attempted to position himself to maintain eye contact with us.
We will never forget the many ways Dakota brought joy to our lives. He was our companion, exercise buddy, protector, and road buddy. His Siberian Husky energy resulted in our family getting in shape in order to keep up with him. With him, we felt safe on several road trips. As a result, he was well traveled. Our longest road trip was to Boston, Massachusetts.
His favorite games were police and traffic monitor. He enjoyed his self-proclaimed police duty of checking the house on command. He would stand at the entrance of rooms and wait for the “police” command. He also looked forward to standing outside and monitoring passing cars. If he felt as though motorists were exceeding the speed limit or their music was too loud, Dakota would give them a warning bark.
He later became our emotional support after the death of two immediate family members. It was as if he understood and empathized with us. In his last days, we became his emotional and physical support. We will never forget and will always love Dakota.
