Fiona Sperry
Fiona Sperry was born in Pennsylvania in 1990. Her registered name is Halcyon Kinship, and she was the daughter of the legendary Whippet, Ch. Sporting Fields Kinsman “Luke” and granddaughter of Ch. Sporting Fields Strider. Her father, “Luke” won 56 all-breed titles and many others. Fiona was adopted by Deborah and Maurice Bahm of DebMar Whippets and moved to Louisiana. After giving birth to a future champion, “Victoria,” Fiona was ready for a quiet home life. On New Years Day, 1998, Susan Sperry adopted Fiona.Fiona was a loving, sweet companion to Ms. Sperry for nearly 10 years. She was a great traveler, and together with her new family, lived in Kansas City, Atlanta, Denver and finally New Orleans. She evacuated to Florida in advance of Hurricane Katrina, eventually returning home to a FEMA trailer and then her rebuit house in Metairie.Fiona remained healthy and sound throughout her 17 years. She chiefly enjoyed kibble, pigs’ ears and being with her “mom.” Fiona lost a great deal of her mobility and declined in the past year. With the help of family, friends and Heaven’s Pets, Fiona left this world with dignity and in peace in Oct. 30, 2007.Fiona will be greatly missed by her “mom” and many others. She leaves behind her loving family, Susan Sperry of Metairie; her “grandfather” John Sperry of Pensacola, Fla.; her “aunt,” Shannon Sperry of Independence, Mo.; and her “cousin,” Lisa Steffee of Atlanta. She is preceded in death by her “grandma” Wanda Sperry, “aunt” Patricia Edler and her own daughter, Victoria who passed last year. Her canine family at home will miss her too — Amy, her Whippet companion of 9 years and “Noodle” her 6-year-old great-grandaughter who was generously given to the family from Deborah Bahm. There will never be another dog like Fiona. She had a full and happy life, and was very much loved by many. The Sperry family is grateful to Rosanna Pandolfo of New York, who loved Fiona most of her life, and came to New Orleans to help her “mom” to guide Fiona on her next journey.
