Statement from Heaven’s Pets to the New Orleans community:

Update 1/30/24:

This morning, we were finally granted full access to all areas of our facility, including the crematorium. Heaven’s Pets staff and the Global Disaster Recovery team have begun the recovery and documentation process in the crematorium. As new information becomes available, we will contact each individual family to provide updates on the status of their pets. We understand that the aftermath of this fire has been very difficult and stressful for everyone, especially those already dealing with the grief of having recently lost a beloved pet. Please know that we are working diligently to provide a sense of closure for all our families.

For grieving families affected by the fire, we would like to offer complimentary use of our 24-hour Compassion Helpline offered through Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home and Cemeteries. The Compassion Helpline is a resource that provides confidential phone access to professionals trained in grief counseling. Please call 1-866-649-9641.

Update 1/18/24:

We have now been authorized to enter the Heaven’s Pets building. Heaven’s Pets staff, along with a Global Disaster Team, will enter, begin to assess the damage and begin the recovery process. While we are working diligently on the recovery process, we must proceed safely. This will be an extensive and time-consuming process that will take days and possibly weeks to complete. We will contact each individual family to provide updates on the status of their pets. We understand this is a challenging situation for our families and respectfully request patience and cooperation as we navigate this process.

Update 1/15/24:

We understand how difficult it is for our families who are awaiting an update on their pet. As soon as the location is made safe by the authorities and we have been authorized to enter, we will begin to assess the damage and report on the status of the pets in our facility. Each family will be individually notified as we learn more. This will be an extensive and time-consuming process; we respectfully request your patience and cooperation. We can confirm that our Memorial Gardens were not affected by the damage.

Update 1/14/24:

Early Sunday, January 14, Heaven’s Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie suffered damage to its building due to a fire. Thankfully, no one was injured.

We are working closely with the New Orleans Fire Department to determine the cause of the fire. At this time, they are not allowing anyone into the building. Once the fire department officials deem it safe to enter the building, we will be able to assess the damage and report on the status of the animals in our facility.

We have put measures in place to remain operational and offer continuous service to our families. Our number one priority is to continue to provide the same level of support we give each family following the loss of a pet.

As damage is assessed and repairs are planned, families are encouraged to call Heaven’s Pets at 866-710-8854 or email info@heavenspets.com for information if they are in need of services following the loss of a pet. We appreciate your patience as we continue to navigate through this challenging time.
